Spiritual Formation

Students’ entire experience at St. John Paul II High School is integrated and centered upon Christ. The school follows the guidance of the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education:

In a Catholic school, everyone should be aware of the living presence of Jesus the Master, who, today as always, is with us in our journey through life as the one genuine Teacher, the perfect man in whom all human values find their fullest perfection.

An Integrated Classical Curriculum

Because of this commitment to belief in Jesus Christ, the learning experience at St. John Paul II High School is presented as an integrated whole in which students come to understand the world created and sustained by God.  Academic courses are not isolated but integrated to form in students a unified understanding of the world from the perspective of the Creator. Literature is taught in the context of History and Philosophy, enabling students  to enter the “great conversation” -- the 2,500-year-old dialogue with humanity’s greatest thinkers-- and to recognize God’s ever-present activity in human history, drawing all toward salvation.  Mathematical and scientific principles are presented as ways of understanding the ordered world created and sustained by an intelligent God. Latin is a discipline developing logical and precise thinking along with language skills and vocabulary, and Philosophy is a means to develop critical thinking about the nature of reality. Grammar, Composition, and Rhetoric are emphasized so students develop the communication skills necessary for academic maturity.  Logic is taught to cultivate the ability to think and reason clearly.

Spiritual and Personal Formation

St. John Paul II High School seeks to form students who think and act as mature Catholic men and women. Their formation in the Catholic faith is comprehensive and coordinated, with the goal of full maturity in Christ. Students are led into a meaningful sacramental life through frequent mass attendance, confession, Eucharistic adoration, and retreats designed to deepen their Catholic spiritual life. Regular interaction with clergy helps students develop healthy, trusting and loving relationships with Mother Church, fostering vocations. Classes begin and end by turning to the Lord in prayer so students are oriented toward truth in their intellect, will, and passions. Our house system connects students to a long tradition in classical education, where community and virtue flourish and where students encounter the great saints of the Church. All of this is carried out by teachers and administrators who are experts in their fields and chosen because they are courageous witnesses to their Catholic faith.
