Curriculum at St. John Paul II High School

Integration

One of the most important aspects of the curriculum of St. John Paul II High school is the use of an integrated approach to education. Integrated education functions to teach students that their studies are not segmented or compartmentalized throughout the course of the day, but that their studies form and inform one another. To be able to study mathematics, art, music, and literature in tandem with one another helps students to learn each of the subjects more naturally and more deeply.
Our curriculum creates integration points both horizontally and vertically—that is, their studies are interconnected all throughout their freshman year, but also the things that they learn in their earlier years connect directly to their studies in their time as upper classmen. In this way students are able to engage in the ongoing dialogues of the great thinkers and are given a chance to participate in that conversation more thoroughly.

Training of the Mind

When looking at forms of education, one of the most important questions is what the education will help students to do at the conclusion of their studies. The mark of a good classical, liberal arts education is one that is rich in its content, that gives opportunity to pursue with robust knowledge the virtuous life, and gives students the ability to discern and perceive reality more deeply and with greater precision.

JPIIHS is proud to provide an education that is steeped in meaningful and great work with texts worth reading and ideas worth pursuing. Paired with passionate educators and engaging texts, our humanities, language, science, and mathematics courses are designed for students to be able to enter into a strong curriculum and be formed so that they can rise to that challenge. But more importantly, the curriculum is designed to allow students to pursue the Person of Truth, Jesus Christ.
