End-of-Year Campaign: Nov. 22nd to Dec. 31st
We are excited to announce this year’s End-of-Year Campaign:
BUILDING A BEACON OF LIGHT
The End-of-Year Campaign is the biggest fundraiser that we will embark on this year. It is vitally important to our operation as a school, and without its success we will not be able to continue into next year. As such, there are a number of ways in which we could use your help! Among those things that need to be done, we are in need of volunteers to reach out in their communities, we are in need of financial contributions, and we are in need of your active support in communicating our campaign and praying for its success! More of this will follow as we launch the campaign on the feast of Christ the King, but be aware: we’re going to blast the information often!
Email our Executive Director, Liz Yeh, at Lyeh@chestertonjpii.org if you have any questions or would like to set up a meeting about how you can help!
Assignment Highlight: Shield of Achilles
Mr. Hockel and Ms. Yeh created a joint humanities and art assignment where students were to create a visual representation of the Shield of Achilles. Students were to depict 3-5 scenes from Book 18 of the Iliad, where Homer describes in detail the shield crafted for Achilles by Hephaestus, the god of fire and creation. We were so impressed by the time and effort they put into their work!
Report on Last Month’s Events
OCTOBER 9th “Come & see” event
Our October 9th “Come and See” event went rather well, despite the chaos of Covid throwing us a few curve balls. We had eighty persons in attendance, including a few prospective students! On behalf of Mr. Hockel, Ms. Yeh, and our teachers, we would like to thank those families and students that came to the event to celebrate the good work that has been done so far!
Of course, the most exciting part of the event was the video made by Mr. Joe Mendoza that featured our students and their thoughts of the school so far, which you can view below if you did not already have a chance to see it. Thank you, Mendoza Photography!
October 22nd Feast of Our Patron, St. John Paul II
We started the feast of our patron with daily mass, where we heard Fr. Gregg Pedersen’s beautiful homily explaining why St. John Paul II means so much to Catholics everywhere, especially Catholics in Colorado.
He went on to tell the students how much World Youth Day in Denver meant to the Pope: St. John Paul II only had two photographs hanging in the papal office. One was of his parents on their wedding day and the other was of himself looking out of the helicopter at all those gathered for World Youth Day in Denver.
Our celebration of St. John Paul II ended with a pizza party and games at the park. The friendships that the students have built over the past couple of months continued to amaze us, and it was so good to watch them relax and have fun in the midst of midterms. The teachers definitely enjoyed the break for festivities as well!
